The study area in the historical premises of the Klementinum’s former summer refectory inspires concentrated study, primarily of printed documents from the NLCR collections published since 1801.

The General Reading Room is open to all registered users with a valid NLCR library card or visitors with a one-day pass. There are 205 study places in the Reading Room, including two places for holders of a ZTP/P card (disabled persons) and their assistants.

The reference library has approximately 12,000 library units of reference literature, encyclopaedias, basic Czech and foreign monographs in all fields of knowledge. The books are arranged according to the Systematic Classification of the General Reading Room.

The reading room offers 14-day reservation and on-site access to printed documents from the Universal and Study Collections of the NLCR published since 1801. Reservations can be renewed repeatedly unless another reader requests a unit.

In the Reading Room, reprographic services are provided on request; in the nearby Social Sciences Reading Room, self-service reprographic services are provided. A scanning tent is also available in the Social Sciences Reading Room.

There is access to the NLCR databases and to digital libraries, especially to the full content of the National Digital Library.

Lockers are available in the Ante-room to the General Reading Room to store food and drink in closed containers during Reading Room hours.
