Cares for library collections, including appropriate storage, preventive conservation, and restoration.

The protection and care of library collections includes a complex of activities aimed at significantly slowing down undesirable degradation processes and eliminating factors that threaten the physical condition of individual specimens. The Library Collections Preservation Division (LCPD) monitors the climatic parameters and cleanliness of depositories for storing library collections. It carries out individual and collective conservation or restoration. Plans and implements preventive measures against accidents and natural disasters and manages their consequences. Performs methodological activities in the care and preservation of library collections in the Czech library network; creates methodological aids and procedures (certified methodologies, heritage procedures, etc.). Provides professional support for the “National Programme for the Protection of Library Collections”, a sub-programme of VISK 4 focused on protecting library collections. The LCPD staff are members of Czech (AMG, KKR, Plastics Working Group, Society of Czech Bookbinders) and international (IFLA, Preservation and Conservation Standing Committee, IADA, ICOM, etc.) professional associations and societies; they engage in research and development.
