Loans and copies of documents for Czech libraries from the NLCR collections or from abroad, and lending of documents from Czech libraries to foreign libraries.

For foreign libraries

In the Czech Republic, six centres can be contacted to request a loan or a copy of an article or part of a document. Each centre has its own price list and conditions. If they cannot satisfy the order from their own resources, they can arrange to get the document from other Czech libraries.

The NLCR accepts orders from foreign libraries by e-mail at ill@nkp.cz or through the OCLC WorldShare system (LGP symbol). It charges for this service primarily in the form of IFLA vouchers but prefers reciprocity. Negative responses are sent electronically without undue delay; documents and hard copies are sent by post.

  • Price per loan.......1 IFLA Voucher
  • Price per copy up to 15 pages.......1 IFLA Voucher
  • Price per copy over 15 pages......1.5 IFLA Voucher

Borrowed items may be read only in person at the requesting library only. Extensions can be requested before the end of the loan period. Documents must be returned on time via registered mail and properly wrapped.

For Czech libraries

The NLCR provides interlibrary loan services to other Czech libraries, both from its own collections and from abroad. The prerequisite is the library's registration —filling in the Registration Form and sending it by e-mail to mvs@nkp.cz—and a location tag (the location tag can be requested from the Collections Department via an online form).

To use international interlibrary loan services, complete the *Affidavit* and send it to mvs@nkp.cz.

Orders can be paid for in cash or by card on collection, by invoice (one-off or quarterly), or by direct debit from your account. Information on how to pay your subscription (account) in the NLCR.

Borrowed items are sent to libraries outside Prague by post, while Prague institutions collect them directly from the Reference Centre. Hard copies are delivered in standard black and white format according to the library's requirements (for collection or by post).

Interlibrary loan services from the fund of the NLCR

One order is filled for each work (book, article, paper). Basic bibliographic information must be provided on orders.

Orders are accepted:

  1. through a user account in the NKC database (units with a lending period of 30 DAYS can be borrowed off-site)
  2. via scanned catalogues in RetrIS (more *here*)
  3. through electronic requests for interlibrary loan services of the NLCR
  4. MVS: via the online form to order a loan from the NLCR fund
  5. MRS: via the online form to order a copy of a document from the NLCR
  6. via the request form of the Universal Catalogue of the Czech Republic (more information about ordering)
  7. via the ZISKEJ service

The NLCR provides national interlibrary loan services (MVS) free of charge (except for the ZISKEJ service). Interlibrary reprographic services (MRS) are charged according to the valid price list.

The amount listed in the price list for interlibrary loan services applies only to black-and-white copies or A4 prints. For A3-size items (e.g., newspapers), one page is charged as two A4 pages. Colour copies or prints made as part of interlibrary loan services are charged according to the price list for reprographic services.

If the NLCR processes the order by lending, the requesting institution must comply with all the prescribed conditions (lending periods, in-house study, shipment insurance, etc.)

If the NLCR does not have the document in its collection or is unable to lend it for some reason:

  1. it returns the order with appropriate communication to the requesting institution
  2. offer another form of the document, if possible, or a reprographic copy of the work for a fee

Interlibrary loan services from abroad

For documents that are not available in Czech libraries. The availability of documents in other Czech libraries can be verified in:

  1. the Universal Collections Catalogue of the Czech Republic (SKC and SKCP databases)
  2. The Knihovny.cz portal
  3. other sources (link to IPK)

The order must contain a request for only one work (article, paper from the proceedings). International interlibrary loan services are charged according to the price list.

Orders are accepted via the user account in the NKC database (in the upper right corner under the “MVS” tab).

A document borrowed from abroad can be viewed only in person in the reading room of the requesting institution. An extension must be requested before the loan period expires (unless the supplying library specifies a shorter period).

Copies obtained from abroad are generally supplied in hard copy and in black and white.

Orders are usually processed within two to four weeks, and copies of articles, often within a few days. If the book/article is not found within three months, the user is informed of this fact, and if interested, the document can be ordered again.
