We offer citizens of Ukraine FREE annual registration at the National Library of the Czech Republic from 1 April 2022.
To register for free you need to present the following at the Main Hall:
- a valid ID (Ukrainian passport, Ukrainian ID card)
- a special visa granted to citizens of Ukraine (residence or protection visa)
Registration is open to persons over 15 years of age.
With registration you will get:
- access to the National Library of the Czech Republic and the Slavonic Library
- access to books, newspapers and magazines in the National Library of the Czech Republic and the Slavonic Library - you can just browse through them quickly or study them for a long time in the National Library of the Czech Republic and the Slavonic Library
- in the National Library of the Czech Republic you can find books and periodicals not only in Czech but also in other languages; documents published in Cyrillic have to be searched for in the online catalogue of the National Library of the Czech Republic in Latin according to the Czech transliteration rules
- books in the National Library in English, German, Ukrainian, Russian...
- newspapers and magazines in the National Library in English, German, Ukrainian, Russian...
- e-books and e-magazines in various languages
- The Slavonic Library specializes in documents in Slavic languages, including Ukrainian and Russian; most documents published in Cyrillic can be searched directly in Cyrillic in the online catalogue of the Slavonic Library
- access to licensed databases, especially in English, the National Library of the Czech Republic offers, among others, databases focused on Central and Eastern Europe:
- American Bibliography of Slavic and East European Studies (ABSEES)
- Central & Eastern European Academic Source (CEEAS )
- Central and Eastern European Online Library (CEEOL)
- Russian Central Newspapers (UDB-COM)
- Slavic Humanities Index
- access to digitized documents in the National Digital Library, some of which can be accessed outside the library
- WiFi connection throughout the library
- access to computers with internet access, including printing
- copying (from your own documents and files or from library documents)
- possibility to charge phones, laptops, tablets
- part of the NL CR premises is freely accessible and can be used for personal meetings
Conditions for renewal of registration
The following conditions apply to the extension of the free registration:
- the registered user has submitted the documents necessary for the free registration (see above) when registering in 2022
- the registered user submits a special visa granted to citizens of Ukraine (a visa for the purpose of tolerating stay, a visa for the purpose of protection or a visa sticker affixed in accordance with the norms that will come into force after 3 January 2023) when requesting the extension of the registration in the Main Hall
The registration fee (either at the time of registration or at the time of renewal) cannot be waived if the documents submitted include, in addition to the special visa granted to citizens of Ukraine, another type of visa for stay in the Czech Republic (visa for stay over 90 days (long-term) - for study, for business purposes, extraordinary work visa, etc.), the date of which is more recent than the date of issue of the special visa granted to citizens of Ukraine.
