Performs the functions of the Czech National Agency for ISBN and ISMN and is the exclusive distributor of ISBNs and ISMNs in the Czech Republic.
The department acts as the Czech National Agency for ISBN and ISMN systems for international standard numbering of books and musical works. Assigns ISBNs and ISMNs free of charge. Provides nationwide methodological support to legal and natural persons based in the Czech Republic who publish books, e-books, musical, and e-musical works and to libraries cataloguing the materials mentioned above. Manages the Directory of Publishers in the Czech Republic. Cooperates with the International ISBN Agency and the International ISMN Agency, as well as with foreign national and group agencies, and performs other functions of the Czech National Agency for ISBN and ISMN that are imposed on the NLCR by the Library Act (see Section 9(2)(c) of Act No. 257/2001, as amended).
