Self-service multifunctional printers can make black-and-white and colour copies of part of the NLCR collection. Self-service printing from digital libraries, the Internet, and other sources is also available.

The provision of reprographic services is governed by the *Rules for the Provision of Reprographic Services in the NLCR*. Self-service reprographic services are provided by the NLCR from its collection or from the user's own materials. In accordance with the general legal regulations (Copyright Act, Library Act, Higher Education Act, Penal Code, etc.), or with the terms of contractual licences, the NLCR allows users to make copies of library documents using their own equipment.

Self-service reprographic services at NLCR facilities
NLCR equipment is available for making copies, scans or prints (depending on the type of equipment available) at the following premises:

  1. *Main Hall* - multifunctional printer
  2. *Social and Natural Sciences Reading Room” - multifunctional printer, scanner and large format scanner, microfilm scanner
  3. *Reference Centre* - multifunctional printer
  4. *Periodicals Reading Room* - multifunctional printer, microfilm scanner
  5. *Slavonic Library* - multifunctional printer

NLCR users can make printed copies on a self-service basis of

  • documents from the NLCR collection, unless *collection protection and preservation requirements* prohibit it
  • documents borrowed through *interlibrary loan* services, unless the supplying library has prohibited this option
  • their own documents, up to A3 format

Depending on the type of document, single- and double-sided black-and-white and colour copies and prints in A4 and A3 formats can be produced.
The NLCR's Price List of Paid Library and Information Services and Fees governs fees for self-service reprographic services.
Users may make copies of items subject to proprietary copyright solely for their personal use or for non-profit study, teaching, or scientific research.

Before starting self-service copying or printing, users hand in their NLCR library card or other personal ID card with the user's surname on it to the reading room staff, after which they will be issued a copy card. However, in this context, a citizen’s identity card (Article 39(b) of Act No. 269/2021 Coll., on identity cards), travel documents (Article 5(1) of Act No. 329/1999 Coll., on travel documents), or a driving licence are not acceptable forms of ID. The surrendered card is returned to the user immediately after payment of the fee for the copies made.
The specific self-service copying procedure for each library item is determined by the staff member. They may, at their discretion, provide for an exception to the rules. Users should follow the instructions of the staff.
The NLCR does not normally offer the possibility of making digital copies on library equipment. Exceptionally, this service can be provided in the Social and Natural Sciences Reading Room if it can be verified on-site that the document contains only works that are free or not protected by copyright law. Library staff evaluate this status.
The NLCR provides assistance with self-service copying of library items for users with disabilities (disabled persons with TP, ZTP, or ZTP/P cards).

Self-service reprographic services from items from the NLCR collection and documents obtained through the interlibrary loan service using the user's own equipment

The user may use his/her own equipment for copying but may not use intense light. Under these conditions, they may use a mobile phone, tablet, or camera without a tripod/stand.
If the user wishes to use a tripod or scanner to make a copy, even manually, they should discuss this with the staff. If the staff member agrees, the user shall provide them with a written statement that the copy will be used for research or private study purposes. The form is available on request from library staff.
The user may not use their own device to make copies of:

  1. valid Czech technical standards
  2. the screen (screenshots) in the case of microfilm/fiche documents and digital libraries (NDL, Manuscriptorium, WebArchiv)
  3. documents mediated by the interlibrary loan service if the requested library does not permit copying
  4. documents in poor physical condition or inadequate format of a library item or inclusion of an item in the preservation collection using a portable scanner
