Professional activities of the Manuscriptorium Section.
The International Digital Library is a gateway to written cultural heritage. The Manuscriptorium is managed by an NLCR team involved in international scholarly research in digital humanities in cooperation with the Bavarian State Library in Munich, IRHT in Paris, SISMEL in Florence, the Swiss Digital Manuscript Library in Fribourg, and the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge. The digital library is a licensed domain aggregator for the EUROPEANA European digital library and makes available written and documentary heritage (historical documents) up to about 1800 (including medieval and early modern manuscripts, incunabula, early printed materials, historical prints, historical maps, etc.). The Manuscriptorium is one of the largest digital libraries in the world and contains both catalogue records (66,000+) and complete digital documents (115,000+ individual documents (books), 22,000+ convolutes (multiple works in one volume)) from more than 180 institutions in around 20 countries. Users have sophisticated virtual tools at their disposal for working with published documents, both for searching documents and individual information contained in them, as well as for publishing and presentation activities. There is also a variety of thematic content in the form of virtual exhibitions, videos, teaching materials, etc. The Manuscriptorium also develops the methodology and technology to implement the IIIF Operation and Development of the Index for Digitisation of Historical Objects (IDH) and manages the Index for Identification of Historical Documents and Their Digital Copies. The Index for Digitisation of Historical Objects (IDH) identifies manuscripts, books, and their digital copies, including the alphabetical call signs that identify them.
