Acquires new materials for the National Archival Collection (NAC), the Universal Library Collection (ULC), and the Study Collection (SC). Also functions as the Czech National Agency for ISBN and ISMN and the national centre for the international exchange of official publications.
The NAC, ULC, and SC are systematically supplemented based on the right to legal deposit of materials published in the Czech language in the Czech Republic. These include domestic materials (except for periodicals) and a selection of foreign materials in the fields of social and natural sciences, culture, and art. Materials are also acquired for the collection of historical documents and for specialised collections, especially in the fields of Slavonic studies, librarianship, and musicology, except purchases and donations of periodicals. The international CONSPECTUS method is used for collection building.
The division also acts as the Czech National ISBN Agency and the Czech National ISMN Agency, and the national centre for the international exchange of official publications. It is engaged in coordination, methodological and consulting activities and participates in research and development.
